A Perspective on New Music
Today, we look at websites devoted primarily to some other spectrum of the music media. These are magazines, radio stations, and the like but they do provide information about new artists, new music and the people that have made the music you love.
While some hardcore music purists will scoff at this selection, let me just say this. Rolling Stone will always have a soft spot in my heart, as it was my go-to music guide, in the pre-internet era. It sucks that you have to skim through stuff about US Politics, TV Shows and celebrity gossip, but they still break new music, and occasionally offer streams of new releases and mixtapes of up and comers.
Also a well known music magazine, Spin does a great job of keeping their content about the music. Lots of streams, mixtapes and downloads here. Their record reviews also are fantastic, and right in front of you, so you can see what is gonna be hot. Subscribe to their twitter feed too, as that gets you stories ultra-quick.
I never figured out what this site was trying to be. Is a content provider, archive, or all around music portal? I guess it doesn’t matter. What is important is AllMusic.com has some pretty intense reviews, and one of the internet’s best listings for music catalog searching. It also provides record reviews, a comprehensive listing of the week’s new releases and re-issues and has a killer ‘Album Of The Day’ section. You are truly doing yourself a disservice, not visiting this site.
That’s it for today. There will be a part 5 of this series, where I mention a few more music sites you need to know about. Until then.
