Weekend Music Meltdown – Sept 3, 2011

Wilco has decided to stream their entire new record “The Whole Love” Ahead of the release date. The record doesn’t hit stores until September 27, but starting at noon today, you have 24 hours to preview the record, which you can do at the band’s official website

One of the hardest working bands in showbiz is back in the studio. The Black Keys have let some details about Blakroc 2 slide. Talib Kweli, Wiz Khalifa and The Cool Kids are among the artists that will appear on the hip-hop influenced project. The release date is expected to be November 25th, but the media-friendly group has been hush-hush about that. Check out the trailor below:

An interesting thing is set to happen in 2013. A 1976 amendment to US Copyright Law states that after 35 years, the rights to songs, which had been owned by labels can revert back to the songwriter. Don Henley speaks about the issues this will cause here

There is now an album cover for the upcoming Lou Reed & Metallica project, “Lulu”. See the artwork and read more about the upcoming record over at exclaim

Check out the trailer below, and if you dare, listen to the tune here

The Smashing Pumpkins continue to struggle to stay relevant, by finding new ways to making their old music available. The latest venture is The Smashing Pumpkins Record Club. For just the cost of your email address, you can have access to what will be an introspective look at the creative process behind some of their biggest songs. The first downloads are demo versions of ‘Drown’ & ‘Geek USA’ and you can find the details here

When she’s not busy putting out mixtapes or working as a midwife, Erykah Badu is still making new music. The crazy-haired vocalist describes all of her work as art, and one of her newest pieces is a collaboration with the animated group Gorillaz. No word on a release date yet.

The Melvins are set to release a box sex later this year. “Endless Residency” shows the hard rock group playing several of their classic records in their entirety, during their residency at Spaceland in Los Angeles earlier this year. The 8 record collection comes in a hand silk-screened package is will be produced in very limited quantities, and after 1 day on sale, is already sold out.

Welsh indie rockers Los Campesinos! will release their fourth album, entitled Hello Sadness, on November 15. In other band news, Violin Player Harriet Campesinos! has announced she’s leaving the band to go back to university (Most likely Cardiff University, where the band met in 2006). Lots of details are available on their blog

Finally, who steals from their own band? The former drummer from My Chemical Romance, that’s who. Check out this post from
