The Music Meltdown – May 13, 2012

Against Me!’s Tom Gabel has come out as a transgendered person. Gabel tells Rolling Stone Magazine that she has battled with this for years. In the interview Gabel discusses what types of procedures she’ll undergo and how this change will affect her wife and their daughter.

Those connected to The Beastie Boys continue to pick up the pieces following last week’s death of Adam Yauch. Posted above are AD-Rock’s comments, while Mike D took to Facebook to say his piece:

I know, we should have tweeted and instagrammed every sad, happy and inspired thought, smile or tear by now. But honestly the last few days have just been a blur of deep emotions for our closest friend, band mate and really brother. I miss Adam so much. He really served as a great example for myself and so many of what determination, faith, focus, and humility coupled with a sense of humor can accomplish. The world is in need of many more like him. We love you Adam. BTW this photo sent to me by a friend, (thanks Saslow) is just one awesome example of how NYC is such a unique place that amidst it’s huge size and frenetic pace it really opens up it’s heart in so many ways and on on so many levels in times like these. And though it makes me cry sometimes, it has been really amazing and moving to see.

As if this wasn’t enough to handle, the group is also facing a lawsuit for some uncleared samples from the 1980’s. Sometimes you don’t need a joke.

Ke$ha has managed to get Iggy Pop to sing on her new record. Iggy, meanwhile, is just happy to get a paycheque after his label threw out his new record (filled with traditional tunes, in French). Read about both at Exclaim!.

Aesop Rock is heading on tour this summer. He’ll be covering most of North America, and you can get the details here.

Blink-182 have cancelled their May tour dates, as drummer Travis Barker has to have an “urgent tonsillectomy.” Poor guy. All affected shows are listed in the post On their website.

Silversun Pickups played the big stage at The Jimmy Kimmel Show this week, promoting their new record ‘Neck Of The Woods’ – here’s the tape:

Somebody at Chart Magazine must have been bored this week, as they’ve put together this great list of Historically Inaccurate Songs.

Upcoming Music

New Pornographers frontman/wrangler Carl “A.C.” Newman has a new record on the way. He tells his Twitter Followers that the record is 10 days away from being done, and is a classic singer-songwriter style, that he says is indicative for someone who has just had a child.

New Music

Everclear is back with a new tune. They also have a new record on the way. Spinner has
